Fiber To The Home
Southeast Nebraska Communications is continuing the installation of Fiber To The Home (FTTH), at no extra cost to you. This fiber optic technology is the most advanced available and will replace yesterday's copper telephone wire.
July 30 FTTH update
The installation of FTTH in Falls City is in full swing. We have cutover 420 residences and business from our current copper lines to the new FTTH technology. SNC technicians along with Telcom technicians are completing approximately 10 cutovers a day. Once the cutover is complete at each residence and business, telephone and internet services are transmitted over the fiber optic cable. We are still projecting to have all residences and business cutover to fiber by the spring of 2011.
Our construction crews, Telcom and CCS, are currently burying FTTH cables in Falls City. The projected completion date of this construction is late October or early November 2010.
If you have any questions about SNC's FTTH in Falls City, please contact our office at 402-245-4451

SNC Welcomes First “Fiber To The Home” Customers
Southeast Nebraska Communications welcomes Jim and Shirley Kelsay as our first Fiber To the Home (FTTH) customers in Falls City. On Monday, May 10, SNC cutover Jim and Shirley’s service from the existing copper line to the new FTTH connection.
We are excited to begin our customer cutover from the existing copper lines to our NEW Fiber To The Home. Once each customer’s cutover is complete, each resident or business will have their own direct “non-shared” fiber connection. This direct “non-shared’ fiber connection provides every customer with their own dedicated fiber optic line for their phone and internet service. This dedicated FTTH connection will provide amazing quality, reliability, and speed for phone and internet service.
We are currently working on the cutover in the northwest area of Falls City, North of 21st Street and West of Harlan Street. Our daily timetable is to cut over approximately 10 to 15 customers per day from copper to FTTH. Our goal is to have all customers in Falls City cutover to the new FTTH by the spring of 2011.
Our utility contractors, Telcom Construction and CCS are continuing to bury the fiber optic cable and install the ONTs (Optical Network Terminal) on the outside of homes and businesses.
We are pleased to offer our customers the latest in fiber optic technology. FTTH will elevate SNC customers to a level of service that is currently only available in much larger cities, while bringing an added value to the quality of life in Falls City.
Phase One
By now, a representative from RVW, Inc., our contract engineer out of Columbus, Ne, should have talked with you about the steps needed to install a fiber optic connections from SNC's network to your property.
A survey of your property should have already been completed by RVW. This survey will act as a map for construction crews and technicians, explaining in detail, the plans concerning the installation of a fiber optic connection to your home or business at no cost. If you have not had a site survey competed, please contact our office at 245-4451 and ask for Debbie.
Phase Two
Phase Two of the FTTH project in Falls City involves burying the Fiber Optic Main Line, Fiber Optic Service Line drops to the home and business and installing the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) and power supply.
Our utility contractors, Telcom Construction and CCS from Falls City, are continuing to bury the Fiber Optic Main Line and the Fiber Optic Service Line drops that were not completed in 2009.
Fiber to the Home Installation Steps:
Step 1 - Outside the property
- The conduit is currently being buried in the alleys and to your home or business.
- Fiber is run from SNC's network to the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) which will be mounted on the outside of your home or business.
- The fiber will be neatly tied off at the ONT in preparation for STEP 2, which will take place within 10 days to two weeks.
Step 2 - Inside the Property
- An appointments with the property owner or resident will be made. The property owner or resident, age 18 or older, must be present during this time.
- A technician will enter the property and install the battery pack and connect the fiber from the ONT to the battery pack.
- Services will be cut over to the fiber network and tested to see if they are working properly. In rare cases, a second appointment may need to be scheduled to complete the cut over to fiber and to test the services.
Telcom Construction, our utility contractor, is currently installing the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) shell and power supply equipment to homes and businesses in Falls City. Both of these boxes are provided at no charge. This installation includes the splicing of the fiber optic cable to the ONT and splicing the service line drop for the home or business to the main fiber optic cable line.
